EMAG at Eurosatory 2026: Precision Manufacturing Solutions for the Defense Industry
From June 15 to 19, 2026, EMAG will be exhibiting at Eurosatory in Paris—the world’s leading trade fair for defense and security. At the EMAG booth in Hall 5, Booth B235
we will be presenting manufacturing solutions for the defense industry. The focus will be on the high-precision machining of 155-mm artillery shells on the USC 850 universal turning machine and the electrochemical rifling of gun barrels with the PO 3000 IP. Both systems are specifically designed to meet the requirements of the defense industry: maximum precision, process reliability, and cost-effective batch production. Visit us at Eurosatory and discover how EMAG can make your production more efficient.
High-precision machining of ammunition components and gun barrels – cost-effective and reliable
USC 850 – Precision turning machine for machining 155-mm artillery shells
The USC 850 universal lathe was specifically developed for the precision machining of large turned parts – making it the ideal solution for the production of 155-mm artillery shells. The slant bed design ensures high static and dynamic rigidity and reduces vibrations during the machining process to a minimum. The result: first-class surface quality and roundness accuracy, which are crucial for flawless ballistic properties. The robust tailstock ensures workpiece stability even with long and heavy projectiles. A 12-station turret, optionally equipped with powered tools, enables flexible complete-machining in a single setup – saving setup times and reducing unit production costs. The powerful main spindle, with a peak power of up to 37 kW, enables efficient machining of high-strength materials, as is common in the defense industry.
PO 3000 IP – ECM rifling for no-wear machining of gun barrels
The PO 3000 IP from EMAG ECM sets new standards in the rifling of gun barrels. The ECM rifling process creates rifling profiles in tubes with I/Ds up to 63 mm and lengths up to 9,000 mm—making it suitable for the production of tubes for anti-aircraft systems, infantry weapons, helicopters, and aircraft. The key advantage over conventional methods such as broaching or cold forming: ECM operates without contact or force. Neither thermal edge zones nor microcracks or residual stresses are generated in the workpiece. Machining is irrespective of material hardness—even high-strength, heat-treated alloys can be machined without restriction. A 3-meter-long tube with an 22-mm I/D is fully machined in about 35 minutes—significantly faster than broaching, which requires several hours and tool changes. The result is a fully finished internal profile requiring no rework. Furthermore, ECM technology is scalable to larger diameters and longer blanks—for example, to I/D values up to 150 mm and lengths exceeding 6 m. This makes the PO 3000 IP a future-proof system for a wide range of applications.
ECM Rifling – Modular manufacturing for rifle barrels with maximum repeatability
The modular PI machine from EMAG ECM offers a high-performance ECM rifling solution for short and medium-length rifle barrels. A special rifling module performs machining on up to eight barrels with lengths ranging from 50 to 800 mm in parallel—significantly reducing the cycle time per component. Example: For a 420-mm-long hunting rifle barrel, the process time is 297 seconds. With eight-way parallel machining, this results in a cycle time of just 37 seconds per barrel—equivalent to approximately 97 barrels per hour. A wide variety of internal geometries are possible: from standard to polygonal to hexagonal profiles. The PI’s compact design combines the machining chamber, electrical cabinet, and electrolyte management system on a single machine frame. The machine is forklift-accessible and can be quickly integrated into existing production environments. Compared to conventional methods such as hammering or drawing, ECM rifling offers lower capital investments, reduced tool wear, and eliminates downstream process steps such as stress-relief annealing.
