Durability of EMAG machines: Resource conservation through robust and long-lasting machines

The durability of machine tools is a key factor in resource efficiency in the machine tool industry. The EMAG Group’s machines exemplify this principle. They are characterized by long service life, low wear, and excellent repair and maintenance conditions. In this way, EMAG machines contribute to resource conservation: The longer a machine remains productive, the fewer new machines and raw materials are required.

Resource conservation through durability

A machine’s resource footprint is largely determined by its service life and maintainability. EMAG machines have an exceptionally long service life, meaning they remain in production for a very long time. As a result, fewer new machines need to be manufactured, which in turn reduces raw material consumption and thus the environmental impact.

Furthermore, EMAG machines are designed to be easily and effectively maintained and repaired. This contributes to the machines’ longevity, as any issues can be resolved quickly, allowing the machine to remain in production longer.

Retrofitting: A second chance for used machines

Another important aspect of resource conservation in mechanical engineering is the possibility of retrofitting. In this process, used machines are refurbished and reused, which measurably reduces resource consumption: Simply reusing the Mineralit machine base frame avoids - depending on the machine type - a manufacturing energy consumption of approximately 8,900 to 15,500 kWh (see here the calculation basis), without compromising the machine’s quality. This opens up many opportunities for customers to quickly adapt their production solutions to changing conditions.

Retrofitting improves the machine in many ways. For example, it can increase the machine’s speed, which lowers unit costs. Given the rapid pace of technological change, this is an advantage that should not be underestimated. Older machines can be brought up to the latest state of the art through retrofitting, thereby extending their service life, which in turn conserves resources.

Focus on future-proofing

The durability of EMAG machines and the possibility of retrofitting are key drivers of resource efficiency in mechanical engineering. Both factors help conserve resources and reduce the environmental footprint of production. The combination of high-quality machines designed for durability and the ability to retrofit older machines is an effective strategy for conserving resources in industry.
