EMAG Manufacturing Solutions for the Defense Industry at SAHA 2026

At SAHA 2026 in Istanbul, we will showcase our manufacturing solutions for the defense industry: from ECM rifling for gun barrels to fully automated manufacturing systems for 120 mm and 155 mm artillery and mortar ammunition.

EMAG at SAHA 2026 in Istanbul

The SAHA 2026 International Defense & Aerospace Exhibition is one of the most important trade events in the global defense and aerospace industry. From May 5 to 9, 2026, over 1,700 companies from more than 120 countries will gather at the Istanbul Expo Center to showcase technologies for land, air, naval, space, and unmanned systems.

We will be exhibiting at our booth in Hall 1, Booth 1C-10f. Stop by and learn how our manufacturing solutions make the production of ammunition components and gun barrels more efficient, very precise and reliable.

Exhibits – Our Highlights:

Gun barrels machined using ECM rifling. High-precision internal geometries achieved through the electrochemical rifling process.
Electrochemical machining creates high-precision internal geometries without tool wear. Ideal for cost-effective batch production in the defense industry.

ECM Rifling: High-precision barrel machining with up to eight-axis simultaneous machining

EMAG’s ECM rifling process uses electrochemical machining to create high-precision internal geometries in barrels—without subjecting the workpiece to mechanical stresses or thermal stress. With the modular PI machine concept, double or eight-fold modules can be used depending on production volume, allowing up to eight barrels to be machined simultaneously. The result: short cycle times, low capital investments, and virtually any internal geometry is possible - from standard rifling to polygonal and progressive. The process is suitable for both short and long barrels and offers clear process advantages over conventional hammering.

Complete production lines for 120 mm and 155 mm ammunition – automated and process-reliable

For the production of 120 mm mortar ammunition, EMAG combines the VT 4 and VL 8 vertical turning machines with the TrackMotion automation system to form a compact production line. The shell is machined in just two setups with a minimal footprint. For machining 155 mm artillery shells, the USC 850 horizontal turning machine is used, featuring a generous machining area, high spindle rigidity, and a flexible turret. All systems are designed for fully automated operation and high-volume production and meet the tight tolerance requirements of the defense industry.

Frequently Asked Questions

SAHA 2026 is one of the world’s leading trade fairs for defense and aerospace technology. It will take place from May 5 to 9, 2026, at the Istanbul Expo Center. The trade show brings together more than 1,700 companies from over 120 countries and offers a platform for strategic partnerships, technology transfer, and B2B meetings. Due to its geopolitical location as a bridge between Europe and Asia, Istanbul is an ideal venue for a global forum of the defense industry.

Registration for trade visitors is available via the official SAHA 2026 website at sahaexpo.com. Please note that for security reasons, online registration must be completed at least 24 hours before the start of the exhibition. Further information on admission requirements and accreditation procedures can be obtained directly from the organizer, SAHA Istanbul.

At SAHA 2026, EMAG will present two key topics: the ECM rifling process for high-precision machining of gun barrel internal geometries, and automated manufacturing systems for artillery and mortar ammunition. These include complete production lines for 120-mm mortar ammunition (VT 4, VL 8 with TrackMotion) as well as turning solutions for 155-mm artillery projectiles and their cover components (USC 850, VL 4). All solutions are designed for reproducible quality and cost-effective series production.

In ECM Rifling, the internal geometry of the barrel is created through electrochemical ablation—without mechanical tool contact and without thermal influence on the material. Compared to the commonly used hammering process, this method offers lower capital investments, faster cycle times through multi-barrel machining (up to eight barrels simultaneously), and greater geometric flexibility. Tool wear is virtually eliminated, which reduces process costs in the long term.

The manufacturing solutions presented are aimed at manufacturers of artillery, mortar, and tank ammunition, as well as producers of small arms and gun barrels. EMAG addresses both operators of existing production lines who wish to increase their productivity and automation, as well as companies building new capacity. All systems are designed to meet the defense industry’s high requirements for process reliability, dimensional accuracy, and traceability.

A fully automated production line - such as the combination of VT 4, VL 8, and TrackMotion offered by EMAG for 120-mm mortar ammunition - reduces manual intervention to a minimum. This lowers error rates, shortens cycle times, and ensures consistent, traceable part quality. At the same time, the modular design allows for step-by-step expansion of the line, for example, to accommodate growing production volumes or the addition of new calibers. The result is more cost-effective production while maintaining consistently high ballistic quality. See here an example
