Targeted increase in energy efficiency with the EDNA Energy Manager

How the new EMAG software solution automatically reduces the energy consumption of FANUC machines

In modern manufacturing operations, energy efficiency is one of the key parameters for profitability and sustainability. With the new EDNA Energy Manager, EMAG now offers a software solution that addresses this challenge: It enables intelligent control of FANUC-controlled machines and targeted energy savings – without operator intervention. Automated time and energy saving profiles can be used to optimally plan and implement both the start-up process and idle phases. The result: lower energy costs, higher machine availability and a contribution to sustainable production.

The EDNA Energy Manager is part of the digital EMAG platform EDNA and was specially developed for integration into FANUC control systems. Aiming to achieve precise coordination of energy consumption and machine run times.

EDNA Energy Manager interface with adjustable energy and time profiles for automatic control of machine functions

The EDNA Energy Manager user interface shows how energy and time profiles can be individually configured. This allows users to save energy and automatically control the machine start.

Your Advantages

Automated time profiles:

With this function, the machine start can be fully automated. For example, the user can set a machine to automatically start the warm-up process 30 minutes before the start of a shift – without any operator intervention. This means that the machine is ready for the start of the shift in optimum condition.

Energy-saving profiles:

The second functional area relates to ongoing operation. Individually configurable energy-saving profiles allow the machine to automatically switch to a defined idle mode – for example, if no workpieces are coming in or a material flow is briefly interrupted. As soon as new components are available, the machine automatically wakes up from energy-saving mode.
These profiles can be activated both manually and time-controlled, giving the user a high degree of flexibility in production planning.

Objective

The EDNA Energy Manager helps users to systematically reduce energy consumption – especially in phases when machines are not being used to capacity. In this way, the software plays a key role in reducing production costs while also improving the ecological footprint.

In future versions, the solution will also be available for Siemens control systems.
