Holistic machining of large components with the VSC 500 and VSC 500 DUO

High precision, fast processes, small footprint – the VSC 500 and VSC 500 DUO vertical pick-up machines ensure efficiency in the machining of large components, such as those required in the commercial vehicle sector. They load themselves and then start complete-machining in a single setup or two setups (DUO).

Whether wheel hubs, couplings, bevel gears or brake discs – the VSC 500 and VSC 500 DUO pick-up machines produce large components with a maximum diameter of 450 millimetres and a maximum length of 200 millimetres in a single setup. Loading and unloading is carried out using an integrated pick-up spindle. Various machining processes can then also be carried out in a single setup. A 12-station turret is available for this purpose.

A decisive quality of this machine is its robust and high-quality construction:

  • The base body is made of Mineralit® and, therefore, has 8 times better damping than cast iron as well as outstanding thermal stability, which increases tool life and precision.
  • There is also a hydrostatic guide principle in the Z-axis. The guide cylinder moves in an oil film, which ensures greater stability during hard machining, for example.
  • The symmetrical design is similarly effective. It ensures a closed flow of force and reduces thermal influences.

VSC 500 DUO: Flexible speedster

For even more productivity, EMAG offers a DUO version of the machine. It has two spindles in separate base bodies, which prevents the transmission of vibrations during the process. As a result, it is possible, for example, to machine a component in two separate setups from two sides (OP 10 and OP 20). A turning device is also used in the VSC 500 DUO for this purpose. Alternatively, it is possible to produce two identical components in parallel with the same process – for example, to increase the output quantity.

The VSC 500 DUO can be perfectly integrated into manufacturing systems and offers an interface for connecting the machine to various automation systems via shuttle automation.

 

Optimization of the VSC series

In addition, EMAG has optimized the entire VSC machine series. Accessibility and workplace protection have been improved. For example, the machine is open at the top when the front door is open, which greatly simplifies access. With a maintenance platform that can be easily mounted, access to the overhead slide is straightforward for service personnel. A bellows is similarly helpful as a supplementary cover for the headstock because it seals off the work area during loading and unloading.
