High-Precision External Cylindrical Grinding on the HG 208 Cylindrical Grinders

The HG 208 cylindrical grinders were designed to be used in manufacturing, making the customization of these machines very important. A wide range of technology and production modules ensure that the cylindrical grinders can be customized for any manufacturing requirements, no matter if internal cylindrical grinding or external cylindrical grinding.

The integral loader allows for the cylindrical grinders to be linked up into a manufacturing system and they can also be integrated into existing production lines. For example, in the machining of gear shafts, these shafts are pre-machined on VTC vertical shaft turning machines and finish-machined on HG cylindrical grinders. Complete manufacturing systems from a single source.

The HG 208 Cylindrical Grinder – Perfectly Ground – Perfectly Round

The HG 208 cylindrical grinders, for the internal and external grinding, accommodates shafts with a nominal grinding length of up to 800 mm (31 in). With the help of the modular design of the cylindrical grinders, it is possible to customize the grinders for individual machining requirements.

Available for selection are:

  • Corundum or CBN grinding wheels
  • B-axis with two spindles for external grinding wheels with a max diameter of 500 mm (20 in)
  • B-axis with a single spindle for external grinding wheels with a max diameter of 500 mm (20 in), plus two internal grinding spindles
  • B-axis with three spindles for external grinding wheels with a max diameter of 400 mm (16 in)
  • Work headstock with motor spindle, or work headstock with belt-driven spindle
  • Slide-mounted tailstock
  • In-process measuring attachment
  • Dressing attachment for CBN and corundum grinding wheels
  • Touch-recognition for grinding and dressing
  • Automatic balancing unit
  • Workpiece driver

Advantages HG 208

  • A high-powered wheel drive shortens machining times
  • A contact and crash recognition and wheel balancing system monitors the grinding process
  • An in-process gauging control checks O/Ds and the longitudinal position on shoulders
  • Operator and setter menus simplify handling
  • High-precision, sturdy linear roller guiderails in all axes guarantee the longevity of the machine
  • Absolute measuring systems (linear glass scales) in all axes ensure machining accuracy
  • An NC tailstock with large stroke makes resetting easy
  • Short idle times lead to high productivity levels
  • An operator-friendly workpiece error correction system automatically rectifies dimensional errors
  • Large doors give optimal access, thus reducing the distance between operator and workpiece
