Starting signal for new production and office wing of the EMAG Group in Salach: On March 5, the groundbreaking ceremony was held with representatives of the company, building contractors and politicians. Already in 2017, the company's steady growth had resulted in various construction measures. For example, a bridge was built over the adjacent Fils river to provide access to the site of a former paper mill. This is where the EMAG Group’s logistics operations are now located. The launch of the new construction project marks another peak in the EMAG investment program.

Last year, the new site was the venue for a big employee family party on the occasion of the 150th company anniversary. Now the excavators are rolling in. Directly next to the main premises at Austrasse in Salach, a 10,000 square meter (108,000 sq.ft.) new building will be completed by the end of the year. It will add 6,000 square meters (65,000 sq.ft.) of production facilities and 4,000 square meters (43,000 sq.ft.) of office, meeting and personnel space. “We are driving forward at full speed with the global growth of EMAG. In view of this, we need new production facilities at our corporate headquarters, equipped with state-of-the-art technologies and intelligent logistics solutions. We are consistently creating attractive workplaces,” explains Markus Hessbrüggen, CEO of the EMAG Group. “At the same time, of course, this investment is a commitment to our home location of nearly 50 years. This is where the next generation of our complex and often large-scale production lines will be built in the future. For this we need a lot of space.”The EMAG Group produces manufacturing systems that are mainly used in the automotive industry. The high quality of the machines and the process know-how from Salach have resulted in high demand. “In recent years we have received so many large orders that our available space has been used to capacity. Consequently, we already started renting various halls in the district last year. The new building will enable us to continue growing both economically and in terms of personnel,” says Markus Hessbrüggen.

Politicians welcome decision

Also present at the groundbreaking ceremony were representatives of politics, who consistently emphasized the importance of the construction project for the region. The district administrator of the Göppingen district, Edgar Wolff, emphasized that this investment was supported by entrepreneurial vision: “We have a strong location here, with an excellent infrastructure from which the long-established company EMAG will continue to benefit in the future. At the same time, this decision will help accelerate the development of the business location.” The mayor of the town of Salach, Julian Stipp, confirmed this assessment. He described the EMAG history as an excellent example of how a medium-sized company can become a global player. “Today, EMAG is an economic beacon for the region. As a community, we will of course continue to accompany and support this development,” said Stipp. The contracted architect Robert Rösch mentioned some interesting details about the new premises. For example, the building is designed to be highly sustainable, and waste heat from the machines is used to heat the offices. At the same time, the planning provides for a flexible usage concept. EMAG will be able to manufacture a wide range of different machines and production lines in this hall. “We make sure that this investment is very future-proof and leaves all possibilities open to the company.”

The EMAG Group in numbers: The company employs approximately 3,000 people worldwide and generated sales of 590 million euros in 2017. In addition to the Salach location, the company has plants in Heubach (EMAG Automation), Gaildorf (EMAG ECM), Dornstetten (EMAG eldec), Villingen-Schwenningen (EMAG KOEPFER) and Leipzig (EMAG Leipzig). Outside Germany, EMAG also has factories in Italy, France, USA and China.
