Vertical pick-up principle: The machine <\/span>loads itself<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

EMAG introduced the first vertical pick-up turning machine to the market in 1992. The principle is simple: The work spindle has a dual function. It picks up the <\/span>raw-part<\/span>, <\/span>machin<\/span>es<\/span> it, and sets the finished part down again. <\/span>That makes<\/span> automation <\/span>an integral part of the machine concept, <\/span>eliminating<\/span> the need for a loading hatch, automatic front door, or gantry loader.<\/span> T<\/span>he vertical design<\/span> also<\/span> improves<\/span> chip evacuation. <\/span>And because<\/span> a parts magazine <\/span>keeps<\/span> raw-parts ready, an operator can <\/span>run<\/span> multiple <\/span>machine<\/span>s<\/span> and <\/span>handle<\/span> measurement tasks <\/span>regardless <\/span>of <\/span>\u00a0cycle<\/span> time. According to EMAG, productivity is typically 10 to 15 percent higher than that of horizontal lathes without integrated automation.<\/span><\/p>\n

Twin-Spindle Lathe in DUO or TWIN Mode<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

At the heart of the VL 3 DUO are two mirror-image work areas. Each features its own pick-up spindle with 17.9 kW and 144 Nm, as well as a 12-station turret. <\/span>Driven tools and <\/span>a Y<\/span>–<\/span>axis<\/span> are available as options. For high chip capacity, a high-torque spindle with 32.4 kW and 255 Nm <\/span>is <\/span>also <\/span>available <\/span>(values at 40% duty cycle). <\/span>The machine handles <\/span>c<\/span>hucked components <\/span>up to 150 mm <\/span>in diameter.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
