Chamfering of gears? Easy – if you use the right technology

Having cut a gear, your next step is to achieve a chamfer with the best contour accuracy in order to remove burrs along the tooth profile. You can basically choose between two technologies: chamfering/deburring or the CHAMFER CUT procedure developed by FETTE.


Chamfering/deburring
Chamfering/deburring is the traditional procedure commonly used by most enterprises in the automotive and automotive supplier industries. As the name implies, this process uses both a deburring tool and a chamfering tool. The chamfer is created by rolling the tool over the gear teeth. Chamfering/deburring is used primarily if there are contour traps.

CHAMFER CUT
For workpieces with a more favorable geometry, the CHAMFER CUT procedure can be used. CHAMFER CUT creates the chamfer in two steps: First, a chamfer is created on the surface of the gear with high contour accuracy. In the second step, the same task is repeated on the underside. Choosing the most suitable technology for the task at hand always depends on the individual workpiece.
